"The best programs are written so that computing machines can perform them quickly and so that human beings can understand them clearly. A programmer is ideally an essayist who works with traditional aesthetic and literary forms as well as mathematical concepts, to communicate the way that an algorithm works and to convince a reader that the results will be correct."
-- Donald Knuth, Selected Papers on Computer Science
Ever wonder why you can buy any product you want online with a single click, but you can’t hire a DJ, photographer, handyman, house cleaner, or any other service without making a dozen phone calls? So did we.
Thumbtack is making it dramatically easier for consumers to hire local service pros. We have incredible traction, a talented and passionate team, just raised $12.5m from Sequoia, and are excited to be solving a real problem for real people. Come build the future with us.
We are looking for a full stack software engineer to join our engineering team. As a full stack engineer, you will be responsible for building new products and features to help service pros and their clients connect in new and beneficial ways. In some ways, this is a liberal arts position: you will be working with a variety of tools and with people from all across the company. Your job may change daily (or monthly), and you’ll be exposed to many aspects of Thumbtack’s products and business. You will work closely with our users and with your colleagues at the company to find creative ways to make the process of finding and booking a service pro easier than ever before.
If we do our job right, the Yellow Pages will be a thing of the past and we’ll introduce real efficiency into the local services market.
Our process gives you full ownership over the product and features you build: so dream big, then execute well. Our engineering team values risk taking, fast iterations, and data-driven decisions. We empower people to be creative and independent working towards the collective good. You can learn more about some of the projects we’ve worked on over at our tech blog: thumbtack.com/engineering
Does this sound like you? We’d be incredibly excited to hear from you.
