About Locus Analytics
Locus Analytics, a research firm in New York City, studies the network of relationships within the global economy. Locus has developed methods incorporating linguistics, complex systems, and graph theory for analyzing large, unstructured datasets. This methodology is used to model economic interactions at all scales, from small informal enterprises to major technology conglomerates. We have used our proprietary classification system to construct a database that indexes thousands of companies worldwide.
Locus has grown rapidly over the past few years, and we have used our proprietary system to construct a unique database that indexes global economic entities -- from companies, to workers, to industries -- according to our standardized definition of their function. Researchers and analysts have been central to this endeavor, transforming the way that we approach our work. Locus has developed applications in economic development, education, finance, and more. About the Position
A major goal at Locus is to address methodological shortcomings in economic thinking and to democratize access to economic analysis tools. This role is an opportunity to shape and facilitate how diverse audiences -- from children and consumers to investors, entrepreneurs, business leaders and governments -- interact with economic data. We are seeking a design-minded web developer to prototype and build a platform rich with data visualizations, interactives and other tools for conveying the value of our models as applied to real economic data. We envision this platform to be novel, intuitive, and impactful as our first public-facing application following nearly two decades of research and development. You will be encouraged to push the boundaries of information design on the web and in economic development.
You will be working across teams to synthesize abstract concepts and prototype data visualizations. Our teams work across many fields, including systems theory, machine learning, linguistics, network theory, community modeling, and data analytics, among others. Our interdisciplinary environment is complemented by a culture of lifelong learning; all team members are expected to take the plunge into the array of topics underpinning our work.
