The Technology department is responsible for developing technology solutions that contribute to the achievement of BCI’s mission and long-term goals. The department manages the Corporation’s business applications and information technology infrastructure, providing support to a large group of financial professionals. The department is also responsible for authoring technology-related directives and conducting disaster recovery planning to minimize risk to the Corporation’s delivery of investment services.
The Data & Analytics function is responsible for the governance, architecture and engineering of BCI’s data assets. It also provides reporting, insights and data science capabilities to its clients.
Reporting to the Team Lead, Reporting the Reporting Engineer is responsible for software products and projects with a mid-level of complexity. The Reporting Engineer collaborates and communicates with members of cross-functional teams and delivers business value to internal clients. She/he will assess, design, develop, test and support a diverse range of enterprise reports and dashboards.
The position can be based in either Vancouver or Victoria with travel between the two cities.
•Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
•A minimum of 5 years of experience with responsibility for delivering robust and effective analysis products
•Demonstrated experience with technical data analysis including extracting, consolidating, joining, transforming, and aggregating complex data for sophisticated analysis
•Demonstrated experience with communicating data summaries effectively, including constructing engaging reports, visualizations and dashboards
•Ability to understand business problems and bridge the gap between data analysis results and meaningful business insights
•Experience with issue tracking, product development and version control tools
•Coding skills and familiarity with general scripting/software development
•Deep proficiency with SQL and Python
•Knowledge of the investment management industry
•Engages with stakeholders to define, design and deliver data sourcing, analysis and reporting solutions
•Develops an understanding of data processing performance concerns and issues (configuring database server/data schema for performance, optimizing SQL)
•Develops, tests and maintains timely, trusted, and fit-for-purpose analysis products including organizational analysis, reporting, visualizations and dashboards
•Performs robust sourcing, structuring, profiling, validation and transformation of data for reporting, analysis and data science purposes
•Analyzes data sources, evaluating and remediating data quality, and designing and implementing data sets that can be consumed and re-used by the analytics community across BCI
•Makes recommendations about the methods used to collect, analyse and manage structured and unstructured data to drive outcomes and drives continuous improvement
•Presents products to internal and external stakeholders, reviews the work of other engineers and provides feedback in an open, respectful and constructive manner
•Delivers analysis products in line with schedule commitments and implementation plans
•Proactively identifies risks and issues and proposes solutions to remove barriers
•Applies knowledge of DevOps practices including continuous deployment, continuous integration, test-driven development and automated testing
•Ensures technical artifacts are accurate, accessible, maintained and communicated
•Assists in troubleshooting and guiding resolution of data related problems in a timely and accurate fashion
•Undertakes special projects or assignments as required
